Click-A-Trick Class

Dogs 5 months or older.

During this class you will learn about the science of clicker training and how it offers precision when teaching tricks. We will also cover how to use luring, a clicker and target stick effectively, shaping tricks and behaviors, capturing tricks and back-chaining (putting several tricks together). Learning tricks teaches a dog how to think and gives them an overall awareness of their bodies. This knowledge can really help to make them excel in other dog sports. Be prepared to laugh, have fun and bond with your dog! Please bring your clicker if you have one.

Beginner Freestyle

Commonly referred to as “Dancing with your Dog”, freestyle is actually a combination of obedience and tricks to music. Whether your goal is to entertain others at demos or nursing homes, to compete, or just have fun in your backyard, this class will teach you some of the common moves and how to put together a routine.

There are no required moves in Freestyle: anything, as long as it is safe for the dog and handler, is allowed. So, from the dramatic, to snappy dance routines, to comedy sketches with no ‘dancing’ at all, you and your dog can create a routine that fits your personality. Freestyle is also an excellent sport for dogs (and handlers) retired from other canine sports. The most critical aspect of freestyle is your dogs attention. The use of a clicker is recommended but not required. This course will cover:

  • common moves and how to teach them
  • backchaining
  • choosing music that fits you and your dog
  • designing a routine
  • watching and evaluating routines
  • rules for competing in WCFO
First Class: Dogs come the first night of class.
Length: 8 weeks
Cost: $105 ($15 CCDTC member)
Pre-requisites: Basic 1 or Tricks class (or equivalent training) as a minimum.

Attention Heeling

This class is designed to improve your dogs heeling and attention. This class will not solve all the issues, and will not be complete after 6 weeks - it will require on-going work on your own. The class will give you the foundation exercises and skills needed to create a dog that heels with total attention.
Because attention can be stressful to dogs when asked to do for an hour, there will be some down time and time when you will be watching/helping/evaluating others dogs in the class. Watching others is a great way to learn.
In addition, while the dogs are learning heeling with attention, they should not be in any other classes where they are asked to heel or to not have to pay attention to the handler.
First Class: Dogs come the first night of class.
Length: 6 weeks
Cost: $80 ($15 CCDTC member)
Pre-requisites: Obedience II or permission of Instructor/Training Director.
